Emma West

Online Counsellor

Online

Since qualifying in 2014 I have worked in a variety of settings including the NHS, Exeter University, and at the NHS Laurels Specialist Gender Identity Clinic in Exeter - as a Specialist Counsellor. In 2017 I specialised in offering online counselling and now work with trainee doctors and GPs, as well as private clients.

I have a non medicalised approach which means I see mental wellbeing as linked to people's life experiences [What's happened to you?] rather than as a medical diagnosis [What's wrong with you?].

I can work with you on a range of issues including stress, low mood, anxiety, low self esteem, relationships, loss, anger and trauma, using a variety of approaches including psycho education, CBT, and mindfulness/breathing exercises.

I have specialist experience and knowledge of disability, carer, health, gender dysphoria, and student issues, and lived experience of rare disability and carer issues.
