Counsellor / Trainer / Group facilitator

I founded IAAY in 2008 and run all aspects of the organisation.

I am an experienced counsellor, trainer and group facilitator.  I work with people experiencing a range of difficulties using an integrative approach which means we work together so you can find your own ways to cope with the things that are getting you down or have kept you stuck or feeling overwhelmed. I integrate talking therapy with other useful approaches and techniques including drawing, visual imagery, using objects in a sand tray, mindfulness exercises, assertiveness skills and self-care tools. I work with young people (18+) and adults on all issues including LGBTQ+ issues, questioning gender identity (trans+, genderqueer, non-binary) and sexual orientation , sexuality, living with HIV, domestic abuse, victims of crime and work related problems such as discrimination.

Counselling offers a safe, confidential place to talk about your life & anything that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable for you. It allows you to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively & help to improve things for you. I do not seek to advise & cannot provide answers, but instead, I aim to support client’s in discovering their own solutions in an accepting, confidential & professional environment.

I am an Integrative Humanist therapist; I have completed training on LGBTQ+ issues and can work in a variety of ways to suit each individual, focusing on what’s important & at a pace that suits you.

Alex Everett profile photo.jpg

Alex Everett MPTUK  Exeter, Teignbridge & Torbay

Certified Play Therapist Reg No: 201501077

I offer 1-1 play therapy and group play therapy in and around the Exeter, Teignbridge and Torbay area. Play therapy is a specialised form of counselling or psychotherapy which enables children to work through and understand their big feelings and life events that they may not be able to express through words. Whilst adult therapy may rely on talking about what has happened, play therapy maintains that play is a child’s natural language. By building a therapeutic relationship with the child, the play therapist facilitates a safe space in which the child can work at their own pace.
